Essential workers are sacrificing more than ever before as the country reached a new daily coronavirus case count of over 200,000 on Friday, according to USA Today. This comes at a time when the 7 o'clock applause for frontline workers in New York City has diminished and gratitude signage is becoming less noticeable on suburban front yards.
In the midst of this difficult year, the Costa Rica Tourism Board is holding a contest called "Who Is Essential to You?" They are giving away fifteen seven-day trips for two to the Central American country in 2021. The country's borders have been open since November 1.
"If the last year has taught us anything, it's how to appreciate the simpler moments we may have overlooked before: spending meaningful time with our loved ones, being out in nature, practicing self-care, and giving thanks to the heroes in our lives," according to the website. "Costa Rica is a place that enlightens us to what is truly essential in life."
Travel insurance that covers coronavirus-related issues, round-trip airfare to Costa Rica, six nights in a double-occupancy hotel room, ground transportation, a $200 meal voucher, and more are all part of the seven-day trip that the tourism board is offering to adults in the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are 18 years of age or older. They are also being asked to nominate anyone they think should accompany them.
Essential people might be anybody who has had a profound impact on your life, from parents and teachers to heroes of any stripe.
Nominations for the vacation packages can be submitted by applicants until January 31, 2021, at 11:59 ET. Applicants can explain why their nominee should win the prize. The week of February 8, 2021, is when the winners will be announced.
