Some moments are so special that you can't help but remember them.
One such experience is a visit at the Bolivian Kachi Lodge. You might think you've landed on another planet when you see the parched terrain of Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni, the biggest salt flat on Earth. The lofty Tunupa Volcano (and, for stargazers, the placement of the stars above) could be the sole indicator that you're on Earth.
The property is comprised of a number of geodesic domes designed with stargazing in mind. The glass panels on each dome allow visitors to see the night sky in all its glory. Guests are not compelled to forego any amenities simply because they are sleeping in constructions resembling spacecraft. With each dome comes a private bathroom, plush furnishings, and climate control. For the best skygazing, position the bed in the middle of the room.
The elevation of 11,800 feet at Kachi Lodge makes it an ideal spot for stargazers. Professional guides are on hand to teach visitors all about the night sky, its historic cultural significance, and the Andean cosmology.
Stargazing isn't the only activity available on the resort, though. As part of their booking package, guests have the opportunity to trek to the bottom lip of the volcanic crater, explore an island covered in huge cacti, see adjacent archeological sites, and bike around the salt flats. The resident chefs also put a lot of effort into the food. In order to give visitors the best cultural experience possible, the resort is dedicated to employing only Bolivian products.
