There is no better place than Costa Rica for tourists who want to soak up some heat in thermal waters that are heated by active volcanoes. Near the Arenal Volcano, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, you'll find over a dozen swimming pools, some of which even have swim-up bars, water slides, and tropical cocktails. A couple of the hot springs are open for day trips only, but others are part of hotels that provide 24/7 access for its guests. A soothing plunge in the pool after supper on a honeymoon is about as perfect as it gets.
Arenal isn't the only location to bathe until your fingers turn to prunes, which might surprise some visitors. Also, don't miss the newer Guanacaste stores near the Rincón de la Vieja and Miravalles volcanoes; locals here love taking mud baths. The mineral-rich mud is applied by guests, who can then immerse themselves in the hot springs until it solidifies and is washed off.
Finding a resort in Costa Rica where you can relax in a hot spring while taking in the lush tropical scenery is our idea of a perfect vacation.
The most remarkable of Costa Rica's commercial hot pools, Tabacón, has been operating since the early 1990s, long before their contemporaries even considered opening one. With a little exploration, you can discover hidden bars and secluded spots along the river, which is divided into over a dozen swimming zones.
Nestled in the foothills between the Miravalles Volcano and the little-explored mountain village of Bagaces lies Rio Perdido. Warm, verdant water surrounds dry woodland and magnificent rock formations in this incredibly picturesque location, which is home to entirely natural springs.
This spectacular hotel and its expansive grounds are the hot springs paradise, set back from the Arenal Volcano. Water slides and swim-up bars are available in a few of the over a dozen pools. These pools are just as therapeutic as any other, even though the water is pumped in.
Eco Termales is a boutique hot springs resort in the Arenal region, perfect for those seeking a more personal experience. You can lie on your back and watch the toucans soar over the lush vegetation that surrounds the pools. Delicious food is also served at the on-site restaurant.
