In December of 2020, Chile and Argentina will be traversed by a total solar eclipse.

Incredible supermoons and a "ring of fire" eclipse have occurred this year, but this is an astronomical phenomenon unlike any other. Even though Americans won't be able to witness this eclipse up close, Chileans and Argentinians will be able to do it from a variety of locations, including lakes, hot springs, and even one of Chile's most active volcanoes. Plus, with to livestreaming options, we can all witness the awe-inspiring eclipse without ever leaving our homes.

The Path Of The Total Solar Eclipse In 2020

If you want to see the eclipse to its fullest, you'll have to be within the 56-mile-wide path of totality, which is the moon's center shadow. The northern Patagonia region of Argentina and the Chilean Lake District will be in the line of totality on December 14, 2020. Starting on the western coast of Chile at 1 p.m. local time, it will wrap up on the eastern shore of Argentina at 1:24 p.m. local time. Near Sierra Colorada, south of Neuquén, there will be a 130-second maximum eclipse.

Future Solar Eclipse In 2020 Vs. The "Great American Eclipse"

This eclipse will resemble the 2017 U.S. eclipse in numerous respects. Both Chile and Argentina will be able to observe the total solar eclipse of 2020 from a high vantage point, and the duration of totality will be very similar. The daylight sky will reach temperatures of up to 70º, making it an ideal viewing location for those interested in eclipses. A horizon cloud is more likely to obscure an eclipse viewed from low in the sky, making the experience much less pleasant.

Argentine And Chilean Views Of The Solar Eclipse

Argentines and Chileans can witness the total solar eclipse from a number of picturesque spots. When Chile reopens to tourists next month, they will be able to see the eclipse in a number of popular sites, including Pucón on the eastern bank of Lake Villarrica in the Chilean Lake District and the active volcano Volcán Villarrica.

On the other hand, clouds obscure the view in this region of Chile by about 50%, whereas in Argentinean Patagonia over the Andes by only 30%. Argentina has some of the best viewing spots, including Piedra del Águila, Sierra Colorada, and Las Grutas.

What Date Will The Next Solar Eclipse Be?

Antarctica will experience a total solar eclipse on December 4, 2021. What about exploring the most magnificent ecosystem on Earth while taking in its most spectacular natural show? It's going to be a hit, but it's going to cost a pretty penny. If a trip to Antarctica is too expensive for you in 2022, you should know that in 2023, the only place you can see a total solar eclipse is in a remote area of Western Australia, and it will be very brief.

In April 8, 2024, there will be an even better four-and-a-half-minute totality that will traverse Mexico, the United States (from Texas to Maine), and the Atlantic coast of Canada, making it the "Greatest American Eclipse" yet.
