Whether this is your first time to Antarctica or you're planning a return, andBeyond offers a new fantasy itinerary that could be interesting to you, especially if you're interested in conservation while traveling. Kristine (Kris) McDivitt Tompkins, a renowned philanthropist and environmentalist, will accompany the 19-day land and sea journey to South America and Antarctica in February 2025, hosted by the premium travel firm in partnership with Quark Expeditions.
In 2018, the nonprofit organization Tompkins Conservation—founded by Tompkins and her late husband, Doug, the former CEO of gear manufacturer Patagonia, Inc.—was instrumental in the establishment of Patagonia National Park in Chile. Among Tompkins's many anecdotes and tales from her life are those pertaining to the establishment of a national park.
Starting in Santiago, Chile, the journey continues into Torres del Paine National Park. Here, guests will join researchers working to protect pumas on a Patagonian safari. The next stop on your journey will be Punta Arenas, Chile. From there, you'll have a full day to explore Cabo Froward, the southernmost tip of South America. This area is famous for its diverse fauna, including sei whales and Magellanic penguins. The next stop is Ushuaia, Argentina, from whence the luxurious expedition ship Ultramarine, operated by Quark Expeditions, armed with two helicopters for aerial exploration, will set sail for Antarctica.
Speaking on behalf of Beyond, Pedro Barraza, managing director for South America, expressed their excitement about collaborating with groups that share their values. Kris Tompkins and her staff have been working with andBeyond for a long time. Our African conservation expertise have helped Rewilding Chile and Rewilding Argentina with their animal restoration plans. Caring for land, wildlife, and people is our philosophy, and we're thrilled to be able to work with Quark Expeditions, whose Polar Promise beliefs are similar to ours.
Limited to just fourteen people, the Feb. 25, 2025, departure includes charter flights, all excursions, and three meals each day (excluding premium spirits and wine).
